How Uplift lessons work.
The questions parents ask most often — about lessons, tutors, recordings and how our programs actually run.
About Uplift
What is Uplift Education?+
Uplift Education is a multi-award-winning tutoring and academic coaching provider founded in Liverpool in 2011. We run structured group lessons designed to improve subject knowledge, exam skills, confidence and independent learning.
What does “Learning Beyond the Classroom” mean?+
We believe tutoring should be more than one lesson each week. Students join a learning community with tutors, structured resources, feedback and support that continue beyond the scheduled class.
What is Uplift’s involvement with the Australian Tutoring Association?+
Uplift is a proud member of the Australian Tutoring Association (ATA), Australia’s peak national body representing tutoring organisations and educational tutors. Uplift founder Varun Sharma also serves as a Board Member of the ATA, contributing to industry standards, evidence-based teaching practice and stronger links across the education sector.
What is Uplift’s relationship with the Teachers’ Guild of New South Wales?+
Uplift has been recognised as the first tutoring organisation acknowledged by the Teachers’ Guild of New South Wales. In 2026, Uplift is also a Gold Sponsor of the Guild. We value the connection because the Guild brings together teachers and education leaders around excellence, innovation and professional learning.
What awards has Uplift received?+
Uplift has been named Education Service of the Year six times at the Local Business Awards: 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2024.
How lessons work
How does a normal lesson run?+
Lessons are tutor-led and structured. Tutors explain new content, model examples, guide practice, check understanding and give students time to ask questions. Students then apply what they have learned through classwork and homework.
How long are classes?+
Class length depends on the year level and subject. Many junior classes run for 1.5 hours. Most senior classes run for 2 hours, while some Extension Mathematics programs run longer.
Can students attend on campus or online?+
Yes. We offer on-campus and online learning. Where a class is operated in hybrid format, an enrolled student may attend in person or join the same class live online when needed.
Is the content aligned with school?+
Yes. Our programs are aligned with the NSW curriculum. Senior programs are designed around NESA and HSC requirements. Some classes may also focus on particular school programs, prescribed texts or examination needs.
Do you help with school assessments and exams?+
Yes. Our programs include examination preparation and students can receive guidance with school assessment tasks. We focus on teaching the skills needed to complete the work independently and with confidence.
Missed lessons and catch-up
What happens if my child misses a lesson?+
For recorded hybrid classes, enrolled students can catch up using the lesson recording for up to 13 days after the class. This gives families flexibility without losing continuity in the course.
Are lesson recordings a replacement for attending class?+
No. We encourage students to attend live whenever possible so they can ask questions and interact with their tutor. Recordings are there for catch-up and revision.
Learning materials and support
What learning materials do students receive?+
Students receive structured course resources such as lesson booklets, homework booklets and additional practice material. Resources are designed to support both classroom learning and revision at home.
What support is available outside the lesson?+
Support can include homework help, feedback, catch-up support, online communication and Study Hub support where available. The exact support depends on the program and year level.
How does Uplift use AI?+
We use carefully designed AI tools to support feedback and learning. AI is an additional support tool. It does not replace the tutor, teacher judgement or the relationship between a student and their mentor.
Do parents receive progress information?+
Yes. We believe parents should understand how their child is progressing. Feedback and progress information are provided through our student support and reporting systems.
Tutors and quality
Who teaches at Uplift?+
Our teaching team includes qualified high school teachers, former HSC markers, pre-service teachers and high-achieving university students. We select tutors for subject knowledge, communication skills and their ability to work well with students.
How do you maintain tutor quality and student safety?+
Tutors complete Uplift classroom training before taking responsibility for a class. All tutors hold a verified NSW Working With Children Check. We also use lesson resources, academic oversight and ongoing feedback to support consistency.
Can tutors support students at different ability levels?+
Yes. Tutors check understanding, identify gaps and adjust the level of support or challenge. Students who need more explanation receive clearer scaffolding, while stronger students can be extended further.
Getting started
Can we try a class before enrolling?+
Yes. Free trial lessons are available for many group classes, subject to class availability.
